Hi friends - I hope you're having a good weekend! Every winter there are days when I completely neglect fashion and dress like I'm in Antarctica (unless of course I'm Kate Upton, which means I'm in a barely-there string bikini). Those days I pine for warmer weather, so my brain can come out of survival mode and function creatively again. Recently I was inspired by my mother's artwork to play with a more colorful palette. And what better time than winter to pile on those vibrant layers?

I've always loved the hot pink and orange scheme, but never felt bold enough to wear the two together. This case was different because the top already had a soft orange element in the stripes, along with black and white details. I always find it easier to incorporate colors that are already present in another part of the outfit. For me it's important to balance vibrant combinations with neutral tones because it not only makes the electric colors pop more, but also prevents the look from becoming too theatrical. Black and white were the perfect choices for this ensemble because it's already present in the collar of the top. Grey and black (for subtle) or royal blue and white (for bold) could have been some other great options. Lastly, metallic details are always welcome to make an outfit more dynamic, without introducing new colors to the mix.
What do you think about my subdued hues layering technique? I hope my rundown was enjoyable, but more importantly, helpful! Thank you so much for reading and I look forward to chatting with you soon!
