Happy 2013 everyone! I hope you all had a festive and fun holiday season.
With every New Year, we often start off with resolutions — whether it's a small change, like keeping a tidier room, or a lifestyle transformation, like adopting a healthier diet/exercise routine. In 2009, I committed to a resolution that truly changed my perspective: maximizing potential. When I hit an academic low during my sophomore year in college, I initially blamed everything but myself. I complained about being sleep deprived, having too many social activities and lacking time to complete the difficult coursework. I knew I had the ability to achieve top grades, but felt inhibited by external factors (time, energy, etc). Consequently, I challenged myself to control factors that were within my power — such as having healthy sleeping habits and ending my procrastination — to discover my potential. In short, I never received a “B" after 2009.

I feel like the animalier elements in this outfit (ponyhair pumps, faux fur, lion-headed belt) are perfect symbols for my post. I also enjoyed creating a contrast between light and dark, wild and contained.
The point of my earlier anecdote wasn't to demand perfection or constant success, but rather an invitation to truly “live your best life" (in the words of Oprah). When you've given your best efforts, you shouldn't feel regret upon failure. My goals are to continue challenging and learning, smiling and loving, because life is too short to feel unhappy. What do you think about my outfit? Do you have resolutions for 2013? Thank you for contributing your thoughts and talk to you soon!
