I can only recall a few serendipitous encounters I've had in my life, and one of them was meeting the charming Michael Mack in Williamsburg, New York. A designer, shoe craftsman and philanthropist, Michael is the hands and heart behind the company, Michael Grey Footwear—a line of handmade shoes for both men and women. I was fortunate enough to collaborate with Michael and create an outfit perfect for his L'Amore court shoes. Keep reading for a behind-the-scenes look into the whimsical world of Michael Grey.
Last month I created a wishlist featuring PersunMall pieces in my article, Glam Show. As I mentioned, Persun is an online store that offers a range of high street wear including apparel, shoes, accessories and jewelry. Persun embraces the modern online shopping experience by bringing their customers in-demand fashion trends at affordable prices. I selected a navy double-breasted cape coat for a cosmopolitan and powerful look.
Checked prints, oversized topcoats and wool trousers are all evocative of this season's reimagination of menswear-inspired fashion. Designers from Jil Sander to Lanvin to Dries Van Noten revealed their visions of the effortless yet polished style of our counterparts on the FW13-14 runways. What's my interpretation? Classic trousers styled with a chic, feminine feel.
In elementary school, before I discovered my love for fashion, art, and sports, I was a complete bookworm. I would read my Baby-sitters Club novels during the day, and hide under my covers to read the R.L. Stine Goosebumps series after my bedtime. Of course these habits led to the demise of my perfect vision. Since my first pair of glasses in the second grade, I've only had four different frames: a Harry Potteresque version, a slightly cooler one, and two basic black frames. Why? Designer and even relatively stylish frames are outrageously expensive, even before the additional cost of lens prescriptions.
At the age of 23, I finally discovered the solution: Firmoo. Firmoo.com is the world's most popular global online optical store and they aim to provide "Vision and Fashion the Frugal Way." Keep reading for my outfit and all the details on this revolutionary company.
One of my favorite activities to do to unwind is browsing the web for clothes, shoes and accessories. Sometimes I'm looking for specific pieces, but most of the time it's just my way of relaxing and enjoying something beautiful. The possibilities to create and find new inspirations are endless.
The beauty of fashion is the dialogue it creates among consumers, brands, and influencers. Social media has introduced countless platforms to share your fashionable ideas, and to discuss them with other style-savvy individuals. Choies—a global online destination for clothes, shoes, jewelry and accessories—has made it their mission to bring heart to commerce and become the better origin of fashion inspiration. Read their blog, interact through Facebook, and be their inspiration.
You cannot separate your identity from your perspective. To be honest, blogging and sharing myself with others has always been a mental challenge for me. From a young age I was taught to be diligent, humble, introspective, and to value knowledge over supposedly "frivolous" things. The idea of fashion was so far removed from those values that I equated it with superficiality, narcissism, and other qualities I disdained. But with age, I've realized that your entire world is formed by your lens, your perspective. Instead of viewing fashion as something superficial, I choose to view it as a challenge of creativity and confidence. Similarly, I'm trying to look at my blog as a platform to push myself to be more open, to take risks, and to hopefully instill some inspiration.
This Columbus Day weekend, my friends and I made a trip to Macari Vineyards in Long Island for our first wine club excursion. Though we're only an hour or so from the city, it felt like we slipped away to a different world of relaxation, fresh air, and amazing wine. It also didn't hurt to have perfect weather that day!
Last season's exploration of the crop top reemerged during several New York Fashion Week SS14 shows, including Jill Stuart, Balenciaga, Thakoon, and Rodarte to name a few. While it may seem difficult to incorporate crop tops into one's wardrobe, when styled correctly, it can create a sexy yet sophisticated "skin-is-in" moment.
Fashion is exploration, inspiration, and escape from the mundane. What I appreciate most is the storytelling capability of an outfit—whether it's an indicator of one's aesthetic or even one's personality. I would describe myself as detail-oriented, feminine and confident, and I think these qualities are reflected in my style.
The world of beauty had, for the longest time, felt completely foreign to me. The thought of curling my virtually non-existent lashes, or waiting idly for my nail polish to dry, didn't appeal to me until my early twenties. I wouldn't call myself a beauty buff now, but I've definitely learned a few tricks in applying my style of natural looking makeup. Over the years I've accumulated a few staple beauty products, and I'd love to share them with you!
In a flash, summer has come and gone. I've been on a hiatus these past few months partially because I felt preoccupied with work life, but more so because I no longer felt inspired by my blog. However, with my boyfriend's encouragement, I challenged myself to redesign everything from my logo, to my layout, to my gadgets. And now I can say I'm proud of this new iteration of Stylized Luxe, and that I've learned an enlightening new perspective.
Hi friends - I hope you're having a good weekend! Every winter there are days when I completely neglect fashion and dress like I'm in Antarctica (unless of course I'm Kate Upton, which means I'm in a barely-there string bikini). Those days I pine for warmer weather, so my brain can come out of survival mode and function creatively again. Recently I was inspired by my mother's artwork to play with a more colorful palette. And what better time than winter to pile on those vibrant layers?
Hi friends! Can you believe it's March already? It's already been a few weeks since I started doing Visual Merchandising, and I'm loving it. I really enjoy playing with different colors and finding details that complement one another so working with FENDI merchandise is like a dream come true. Although I haven't lost sight of my ultimate career goal, I'm actively maintaining a happy disposition despite any challenges and detours along the way. My boyfriend and I applied the same mentality — on a smaller scale — to this photo shoot. When sunshine was replaced by fog and drizzle, we whipped out my umbrella and kept smiling:
Hi everyone! February has been hectic for me both personally and professionally. It was my boyfriend's birthday earlier this month as well as our 4-year anniversary on Valentine's Day, which means our days were filled with food, gifts and activities. In other news, my Director at Fendi nominated me as the Visual Merchandising Ambassador for our flagship store in New York. I couldn't be more excited to attend VM training next week and take on this new challenge! In the midst of everything, Doug & I managed to visit Grand Central for its Centennial exhibit, Grand By Design. Continue reading for my classically-inspired ensemble.
Hi everyone! It's been a few weeks since I last posted because the weather has been unbearably cold in New York. But I am thrilled to see that I now have over 500 followers on Stylized Luxe, and I wanted to thank every one of my new blogger friends! Perhaps one day I'll set up a giveaway, but for now, here are 5 fun facts about me.
Hi everyone, I hope you had a great week! Six years ago I met my love through my best friend and her boyfriend. The four of us have enjoyed many adventures together—from prom in high school, to the fateful Boston trip that established Doug and I as a couple, to a recent vacation to Jamaica. Relationships like these decorate my life with genuine bliss. This week we drove to D.C. to visit Moses (who now lives and works there). Here are some snapshots of my forest green ensemble take at the WWII Memorial:
Happy 2013 everyone! I hope you all had a festive and fun holiday season.
With every New Year, we often start off with resolutions — whether it's a small change, like keeping a tidier room, or a lifestyle transformation, like adopting a healthier diet/exercise routine. In 2009, I committed to a resolution that truly changed my perspective: maximizing potential. When I hit an academic low during my sophomore year in college, I initially blamed everything but myself. I complained about being sleep deprived, having too many social activities and lacking time to complete the difficult coursework. I knew I had the ability to achieve top grades, but felt inhibited by external factors (time, energy, etc). Consequently, I challenged myself to control factors that were within my power — such as having healthy sleeping habits and ending my procrastination — to discover my potential. In short, I never received a “B" after 2009.
